Eleemosynary
by Lee Blessing
August 11 & 12, 8pm, Sunday, August 13, 5pm
Teatro Santa Ana, Reloj 50, 50/100 pesos

Funny, moving, sensitive and insightful (and a great chance to improve your vocabulary), performances of Eleemosynary continue at the Teatro Santa Ana. In Lee Blessing's memory play, three generations of women struggle to repair their fantastic and fragile family life. Produced by the Player's Workshop and directed by Lola Smith, Eleemosynary stars Amy Chankin as the eccentric grandmother, Joanna Byrne as the clever but reclusive daughter and Gwenneth Holmes as the spelling-obsessed granddaughter, all three caught up in a competition for love.
| Eleemosynary is a one-act play and has no intermission. The cast and crew will be in the Café Santa Ana after each performance for a cup of something and a snack and look forward to meeting with any audience members who'd like to stay.

Playreaders put on The Orphans
Playreaders present The Orphans
Wednesday & Thursday, August 16 & 17, 7pm
St. Paul's Parish Hall, Cardo 6, 10 pesos
The latest production by the Playreaders of San Miguel is James Prideaux's The Orphans.
The play centers on two elderly ladies who have lived in one hotel room for 17 years because they do not feel safe. They have not set one foot outside the hotel in all that time. They own property that gives them a handsome return, but they don't spend a penny of this income. In fact, they keep the money in a large chest in their room. A mysterious cousin suddenly appears, and it becomes clear it is his intention to share some of the contents of the chest. Fur flies!
Kokila Byrne, Theresa Major and David Barrow read the lead roles. Both Byrne and Major were recently seen in
Girl Talk. Dick Simandl executes lights and sound, and Rosalie Gower directs.
The doors open at 7pm and the show begins at 7:30pm.
