By Mary Butler (April, 13, 2006) What better way to spend a couple of hours each week than to get together with other creative writers in a nonjudgmental environment and share our stories? We write for 10, 15, 20 minutes at a time on a common theme and discover the myriad interpretations of that theme. On April 24 between 2:30 and 4:30pm in the Sala Quetzal of the Biblioteca Pública, several brave writers will be demonstrating the process for free, with audience participation for those who wish. Bring paper and pen if you intend to write with us. We are an ever-changing group with the constant guidance of leader and founder Rachel Citrin. After approximately a year and a half I have seen probably 50 people pass through the group. We have shared such important stories that we know each other in a profound way. This holds true even for those who have only a few weeks or months with us in San Miguel de Allende. Our presentation is an opportunity for you to join us or just observe. It is also an opportunity to challenge ourselves further, to take the leap to publish. It all takes place in an atmosphere of acceptance and acknowledgment that some of us might not be ready to publish. Since the group is ongoing, there is no need to have a product at any one time. In fact, the product for me is self-revelation and the connection to others. Knowing oneself and others always leads me to acceptance and understanding. There is no better payoff than that.
