El Viejo Topo is pleased to announce a special concert Saturday. Renowned musician and sociologist Luis Ku will be gracing a San Miguel audience with his unique and beautiful music to support a local documentary project, In the Absence of Men. |
The film is not pro- or anti-immigration, but a vehicle to bring viewers into the lives of the families carrying on beyond the news headlines, policy debates and border problems.

Luis Ku, hailing from Veracruz, learned of the project and is thrilled to share his musical talent in support of Reel Futures International. His music is not only sensuous, but carries a depth of human experience that is rare.

September is our national patriotic month, so this first concert will be called “Mexican Romance” and the name should suffice to attract those who want to know more about the finest Mexican composers such as Agustín Lara, composer of Granada and Maria Bonita, and Juventino Rosas, composer of the famous waltz Over the Waves, who went from life in rural areas near San Miguel to world acclaim.
Tickets are 100 pesos at the Teatro Santa Ana box office and seating is limited.
