Alison Bastien and Victoria Challancin are doing a joint presentation on herbs at the botanical garden. Each has different expertise: Bastien talks about medicinal uses of plants; Challancin presents their history and culinary uses. They pepper their talk of common herbs with folklore, recipe suggestions and herbal remedies.

Bastien and her husband Helio own La Victoriana, where Alison oversees the production of 300 herbal products for health and beauty. She teaches private classes and workshops on herbal healing, wellness and midwifery. She has a degree in anthropology, is a certified childbirth educator and teaches at the local CASA school. She has lived in Mexico with her family for 35 years.

Challancin owns Flavors of the Sun International Cooking School of San Miguel and has had a lifetime affair with history, culture, travel and food. Her cooking classes have been featured on TV and in magazines and newspapers. Check out her food blog at flavorsofthesun.blogspot.com.
