Breaking the Barrier of the Self, June 23, 2006

 |
"Breaking the Barrier of the Self" is designed to open a discussion on how artists can break barriers in their work by challenging themselves and their craft. |
During the first 10 minutes of his presentation, Roland Salazar Rose shows a video of his work. It is a shortened version of a 45-minute film produced and distributed to the US educational community by Chip Taylor Productions.
Using state-of-the-art technology recently purchased by the Biblioteca, the artist presents "Breaking the Barrier," an abstract series he created this year using mixed media, as well as other drawings, paintings and works on paper and Masonite that include abstract, semiabstract and figurative work done in San Miguel between 2002 and 2005.
Salazar recently exhibited in solo shows in the United States at the Barn Gallery in Ogunquit, Maine, and at Merrimack College in Massachusetts. In Mexico, his last large solo show consisted of more than 100 pieces in a 10-year retrospective at the Diego Rivera Museum in Guanajuato.
Salazar is represented in Mexico City by Aura Galerias; in Guadalajara at El Vertice Galeria; in Paris, France, at Danielle Artois Gallery and in Milan, Italy, at Mario Peliiza Arts.
In 2007 Salazar will be a resident artist in Costa Rica and will also have a residency in Melbourne, Australia, where he has been invited to complete his autobiographical film The Four Seasons of the Master Myth.
