Illiteracy remains a challenge to development

An educated population is essential to the growth of a country, and in Mexico illiteracy and a lack of opportunities for learning remain challenges to be overcome. 

The inability to read and write affects not only current generations but future ones as well, since illiterate parents are not equipped to assist their children with their homework, which helps perpetuate a cycle of low academic achievement.
