Security: a national and local concern

Mexico is weary of the violence and insecurity arising from drug trafficking and police corruption and their attendant social problems such as murders and kidnappings. 

The recent kidnapping and murder of 14-year-old Fernando Martí spawned a demonstration in Mexico City last Saturday, August 30.
