Campaign against breast cancer continues

The state health department reported that more than 120 women in Guanajuato died from breast cancer between January and August 2006, an average of 17 deaths per month.  

According to the department’s figures, one in ten women develops this type of cancer, and it is becoming more frequent: The mortality rate from breast cancer has increased 14.7 percent in the last decade in Mexico. Although the direct cause of the disease is not known, risk factors such as not having children after 35 years of age, not breastfeeding, smoking and obesity may play a part.
