President Felipe Calderón asserted at the 33rd annual Tianguis Turistico that Mexico would be a major world tourist destination and predicted an excellent year for tourism despite the “economic turbulence” within the US economy over the past year.

Kelley Vandiver’s Sacred Birds are flying in the Generator Gallery from May 1 to the end of June. The exhibition consists of 30 giclee prints of the entire flock—blackbirds, lovebirds, cardinals, roosters, parrots, you name it—all dressed up as Catholic saints and Biblical characters.

On May 9, the Authors’ Sala presents a “Works in Progress” night. Local writers will read from a screenplay, short stories, young adult literature, a novel and memoirs.
