More choices but fewer chances for small businesses

The arrival in San Miguel of large chain supermarkets and franchises has impacted small businesses within our growing city. Grocers, produce vendors, druggists and baristas in smaller establishments, once the only local choice for consumers, see a decline in business. Residents’ buying preferences, however, depend on several factors, chiefly location and quality, and some smaller stores have retained, or regained, loyal clientele.

Dessert Days for Cruz del Palmar library
To support the library project, I decided to do “Dessert Days” at Victoria Robbins’ School. We sold the desserts on Fridays during lunch break and made 1,200 pesos.
