San Miguel and Atotonilco named World Heritage sites

Sanmiguelenses braved light rain in the Jardín, on July 7, to celebrate the official announcement of the city of San Miguel de Allende and the Sanctuary of Jesús de Nazareno de Atotonilco achieving United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage status. 

 

Mojigangas (giant puppets), live music and, of course, fireworks and bells ringing marked the auspicious occasion. A message from Mayor Jesus Correa, in Québec, was broadcast on a giant screen. Celebrations continued into the early hours of the morning.
