Integrity and authenticity are key to making the list

September brings many celebrations and visitors to San Miguel, but this year a group of visitors will arrive not so much for the revels as for revelations. 

Although the local government has not announced the date of their arrival, sometime this month UNESCO officials will be in town to evaluate whether San Miguel de Allende should be included on the organization’s list of World Heritage sites. The final decision will be made in July 2008 in Quebec, Canada. Recognition as a World Heritage site would make San Miguel eligible for federal funds to support infrastructure as well as preservation and conservation of the city’s architectural and historical heritage.
