Bringing educational opportunities to Cruz del Palmar

Everyone should have access to education and cultural enrichment, but in San Miguel de Allende many citizens can only dream of such things.

More than 30 years ago, the American philanthropist Stirling Dickinson, who adopted San Miguel as his home, organized donations of books to rural elementary schools through a program administered by the Biblioteca Pública. Through this endeavor—now unfortunately defunct—more than 345 rural schools were able to enhance their modest libraries with between 125 and 200 volumes ranging from encyclopedias to fairy tales.
