San Miguel illiteracy triple the national average

The Municipality of San Miguel (pop. 140,000), has an illiteracy rate of 17.4 percent, almost three times the national rate of 6 percent, according to 2005 State Census data. |
Local head of education Jesús Ledesma said that 36,000 adults in the municipality have not completed elementary school. More than 24,000 are completely illiterate.
