FORUMS & LETTERS

Editor,

On behalf of the board, teachers, and children of Waldorf San Miguel, I thank the community members and sponsors who made the "Full Moon Organics" Spring Harvest Dinner and Blues Party at Casa Angelitos a huge success. The event raised 20,000 pesos that will support ongoing programs at Waldorf San Miguel, and it brought the organic and sustainability communities together to rally around the school as partners in educating our children and leading our community in environmental responsibility. Special thanks to chef Jason Malloff who showcased his culinary talent. We look forward to enjoying his cuisine at the opening of Cafe Rama, behind the organic tienda, Natura. Cafe Rama will be an ongoing financial support to Waldorf San Miguel, and will help promote organic food consumption in our community. We also thank Vudu Chile for performing exceptional blues and dance music. You made the party fun! Finally, we thank “Full Moon Organics” for bringing together Vía Orgánica, Casa Angelitos, Luna de Queso, Natura, V

iejo Topo, Bové, Solar San Miguel, Cervecería San Miguel, Toyan, Fellini Organic Gourmet, el bajo fondo, Ristorante Hacienda Landeta, The Restaurant at Sollano 16 and El Gozo in a vision for quality Waldorf Education for our children. Waldorf San Miguel School employs a holistic approach to education that nurtures the compassion, creativity, and skills needed to respond to challenges that face our planet.

Editor,

“I've fallen and I can’t get up.” We've all seen the TV ads for a beeper system—a device that the elderly, especially those living alone, wear around their necks. When activated in an emergency, the alarm alerts a central receiving system that then ascertains and procures the assistance that is needed.

The ad ends with former Surgeon General of the United States Dr. C. Everett Koop announcing, “And that's why I wear one.”

Given the fact that so many retired citizens live in San Miguel, many of them alone, it would be beneficial to all of our community to have such a bilingual system. It could be a life saver for those members of our community, both native and expatriate, whose age and living conditions might require help in an emergency.
