Letters

Editor,

I gratefully acknowledge the hundreds of people who came to the official launch of The Oz Project, a foundation whose mission is to inspire children to follow their dreams of magic and adventure. We primarily do this by giving children in orphanages, barrios and rural villages rides in hot air balloons; providing scholarships to San Miguel’s high school students for writing and illustrating workshops; and supporting individuals who are teaching these children music, art and culinary skills. The generosity of our guests will make it possible for us to give a Tree of Glass Hearts, specially created by artist Toller Cranston, to the new General Hospital. The sculpture is illuminated and the hearts sparkle. Our plan is to give it to the new General Hospital for the lobby, so that people smile the first thing when they walk in.

My heartfelt thanks to my friends, who helped make the party such a success and to Toller, my “Willie Wonka on Speed,” for providing an enchanted evening for so many people.
