Letters
Editor,
This coming August, I will be both participating and presenting at the XVII International AIDS Conference taking place in Mexico City. The purpose of this letter is twofold. The first is to connect with other sanmiguelenses who may also be attending the conference and the second is to collaborate with those who may have an interest in working on HIV efforts in San Miguel and/or in the state of Guanajuato.
Last April I retired and came to live in San Miguel after 15 years of leading the HIV prevention effort in Alameda County (across the bay from San Francisco, CA). Many of our successes were a result of strong collaborations with other government entities and community based organizations. Most importantly, we integrated people living with HIV (PLWH) in all aspects of the work.
Anyone interested in furthering HIV work in Guanajuato, please contact me at: jmcamacho18@yahoo.com.

Editor,
A few weeks ago, our church (along with seven student nurses from UT School of Nursing) made a trip to San Miguel to help paint the new El Centro Infantil and to install furnishings our parishioners raised funds for. We wanted to write and say how grateful we are to Claudia and Paco Vilchis Vazquez, as well as their church, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and its parishioners. We are thankful that so many from St. Paul’s were willing to open their homes to 18 strangers. Their hospitality and generosity are a true affirmation of God’s love, as is their work for the underprivileged children in San Miguel. We look forward to returning to San Miguel next year for another mission trip. But until then, we just wanted to say “Thank You” to the parishioners of St. Paul’s and to the people of San Miguel de Allende for their kindness and friendship.
