The Pick

The Impressionists

This is a really good movie, a period piece starting in the 1860s that tells the life of fellow artists Manet, Degas, Cézanne, Renoir and Monet. Richard Armitage is great as Monet. The movie gave great insight into the way the artists created their masterpieces and the struggles they underwent. Amanda Root is also stellar. The story’s “narrator” is Claude Monet. The cinematography is beautiful and the movie offers a great view of European life in the nineteenth century, from buildings and costumes to natural landscapes.
