From the shores of Presa Allende
By Atención staff

A new organization, Amigos de la Presa, held an “open house” (outdoors!) on the shores of the Presa Allende on Sunday, September 6. More than 40 people headed down and participated in the beginnings of a brave new initiative to clean up the Presa.

Amigos de la Presa is a citizen-based organization whose objective is to promote the recreational use of the Presa and to work toward the continual improvement of the water quality. The President of the new organization, Mike Lambert, who mobilized concerned citizens in Pittsburgh to clean up the three very polluted rivers there, now is offering his considerable skills to clean up Presa Allende.

Lambert thanks those who attended the first Open House of Amigos de la Presa, who helped to celebrate not only the fact that they are now an official non-profit organization, but also the first meeting in the new Amigos Boat Yard, which is near the future site of the their boathouse.

He also invites others to become members of the group. Membership is free, and the group wants to know what work each person is interested in and what is important to them. Lambert says Amigos have major work to do within the environmental, recreational and youth-oriented areas, as well as coordination of the new boathouse and equipment. The more hands that are part of the work, the more the organization can accomplish.

Amigos de la Presa currently is developing their website, but you can contact Mike Lambert to receive email updates about the specific goals and objectives within major interest areas of the organization, opportunities to serve on a committee or task force, and when future gatherings will be held.
