San Miguel Posters

The first thing you’ll notice upon entering San Miguel Posters is that it’s definitely not your average poster shop. “We’re a full-blown design studio and printing workshop,” says Ellie Vega, co-owner, along with her husband, Martín Vega. “We offer a beautiful assortment of fine art posters featuring memorable scenes of San Miguel de Allende.” Ellie also admits to having a particularly good resource for great artwork.

Renowned artist and San Miguel resident Jerald Peterson is her father, and for the first time his work is available in poster form. Jerald Peterson’s paintings capture the rustic and colorful character of San Miguel and make unique and portable souvenirs to take home after a wonderful vacation.

San Miguel Posters also offers custom-designed posters in any size up to 42 inches wide. They can make posters from customers’ personal photographs, slides or film. These personalized posters make wonderful gifts for any occasion, such as weddings, birthdays, quinceañeras, graduations, and other special events. The posters can then be framed in-house. There’s a personal touch that goes hand-in-hand with designing these posters, so it’s not really your average print shop, either.

San Miguel Posters is also preparing to offer local retail businesses new and original ways to advertise. They wanted to do something up-to-date while keeping true to the charm of San Miguel. They offer indoor retail signage and backlit transparencies for light boxes. “The possibilities are limitless with such great craftsmen in San Miguel,” says Martin.

Ellie and Martin Vega, along with their one-year-old son Dominic, moved to San Miguel just this year from Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Martin is originally from Jalpan, Querétaro, and Ellie was born in Virginia. They both speak Spanish and English fluently, so the shop will be 100% bilingual. “We have spell-check in both languages,” laughs Ellie, who admits to needing to use it frequently.
Ellie and Martin decided to move after visiting her parents a couple of years back.

They enjoyed the charm of the town and felt they had something to offer: beautiful posters, wide-format printing, great design work and affordability. They can keep prices reasonable because they do it all in the shop. As a matter of fact, you’ll see a list of prices as soon as you enter the store, so there are no surprises.

San Miguel Posters will be celebrating their Grand Opening on Friday, July 7, from 6:30 to 9:30pm at Quebrada 11 (near the corner of Insurgentes). Their telephone number is 154-5753.
