Teatro Santa Ana presents African traditional dance, drum and song at its exhilarating best, performed by Samba Diop of Senegal and France.
A dancer, percussionist, singer and choreographer from West Africa, Samba Diop has been involved in several Senegal ballets. He also took part in various appearances in Senegal with artists such as Youssou Ndour and Baba Maal. Currently, he dances with Doudou Diaye Rosado and his son, Ali Diaye, at concerts in France and Holland.
To disseminate African culture and traditional dance, we offer dance and percussion workshops with Samba Diop.
Music and dance form the center of African arts and culture. Music plays an integral role in the celebration of various rituals and thereby accompanies everyday activities such as herding cattle, working in the fields and preparing food.
African dance incorporates every part of the body. If you can move your hair, you should do it. If you can move your nails, you should do it! African dances are full of vitality, promoting a total body feeling and offering a variety of movements that many have lost in their everyday lives. A key feature is the enjoyable movement of the spine, pelvis and shoulder as independent centers.
African drumming workshops help to reassure people of their abilities and talents and encourage relaxation. Drumming together promotes self-confidence and well-being while encouraging bonding, mutual appreciation and togetherness. The workshops are energizing and inspirational and encourage creativity and self-expression.
They will help you to develop a movement vocabulary that will deepen your understanding of the polyrhythmic nature of African-based dances and music.
The courses address themselves to dance- and drum-interested people of every age and any previous experience. We will provide beginner and advanced levels in both percussion and dance workshops.
