Ballroom dancing is more popular than ever, and now you can get in on the action right here in San Miguel. The first Arthur Murray franchised dance studio in Mexico opens on Tuesday, October 28, inside El Sindicato, Recreo 4.

The stability of the franchise will help to increase the financial resources of El Sindicato Casa de Artes Escénicas, allowing more scholarships for local youth who are interested in performing arts but cannot afford class fees.

Owner Christie Olvera is a former Arthur Murray studio manager from the US who has over 25 years of dance experience. She and her husband are street salsa champions who have participated in numerous international competitions and exhibitions over the years.

Olvera says, “Ballroom dancing is the ideal exercise for mind, body and spirit. It is so much fun that you forget you are building stamina, increasing flexibility, strengthening the body and sharpening the mind all at the same time. Plus, it is a wonderful way to meet new people or reconnect with someone you love.”

Arthur Murray is the largest and most prominent international dance organization with well over 200 studios in over a dozen different countries. The company’s founder began teaching dance in 1912 and formed the company as it is known today in 1946. Arthur Murray-trained professionals have been featured in television and movie projects such as Dancing with the Stars, Dirty Dancing and Dance with Me.

The studio offers private and group lessons in traditional ballroom dances such as foxtrot, waltz and tango, as well as rhythm dances such as salsa, rumba, cha cha and swing. Arthur Murray San Miguel also will host weekly parties and events so everyone can enjoy and use what they have learned.
