From the farthest recesses of time, the power behind the legend of Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth, and that of her darker counterpart, Lilith, the she-demon, keeps on talking to us. |
Their myth and legend survive because they talk about the primeval forces that move us, about the mystery of being human (our heart being the harbor that holds all the ships of gods and demons) and the risks entailed by our very nature, which can only be overcome by courage and grace.
In this show, we have listened to Inanna’s and Lilith’s voices. We have tried to get rid of the phantoms and distractions of others’ interpretations of them, valid as they may be, so that we could really listen to what their legend had to tell us, as if pronounced for the first time. Through the conjunction of different artistic disciplines, we have tried to make that voice visible, audible and present.
This is a journey in search of unity. We have attempted to follow Inanna’s example and dared to descend to the underworld. We have listened to Lilith’s howl and have dared, with her, to face the secrets of ourselves and of the world that can only be learned in grief and darkness. In this journey, the quest is for the reintegration of darkness and light. Through the acceptance of death, of the darkness hidden in the heart of the universe, of nature’s violence, comes also the understanding of the miracle of creation, of the imperishable wonder of this world and us in it: body and soul.
Dance, music, human voice, images and words—those are the walking sticks that support us in our journey.
| Lilith, the way she unfolds herself—when we ask about Lilith, we face first her dark brightness. The way she unfolds herself and takes us back and forward more and more. This is a journey that walks on the edge, to a deep end with no end, a collective end that is loaded with figurines, powerful symbols that are born, reborn and resound, emerging continuously in different cultures at the evolution of times. |

Lilith, the first woman who was never domesticated in the Hebrew tradition, the terrible bloodstone Kali from India, the fierce Coatlicue in our pre-Hispanic cemetery, these are all artistic inspirations that take life and death hanging on the belt.
They are the innocent side as well, savage and uncontrollable by nature, the organic and creative nature, mother Goddess, a protective figure that inspires a universal perception as an organic whole, holy and alive, in which she is the core.
Lilith and her masks are the perfect excuse to continue our journey-search-encounter, inside of our bodies.
From this perspective, the topic is the trigger to incarnation of the evolutionary image from the feminine principal, as we understand it as a valid expression of the unit of life.
Join us for this unique and beautiful dance experience. Tickets are available at the theater box office.
