To talk about Lamine Thiam is to talk about the real art of Africa. He is an excellent musician, choreographer and dancer with an impressive résumé. Thiam was born in Kaolack, Senegal, West Africa. He studied dance and African percussion with the Songomar African Dance Company, the Conservatoire National du Senegal and the Ballet Jo-Kolly. In 1993, he arrived in the United States, where he teaches dance and drumming. He has also been the director of the Bousso Dance Company since 1996.
Besides his career in dance and music, Thiam had the leading role in the play Yanga, working with Serafin Aponte and directed by Anita Gonzalez. He was also in the film Amistad, directed by Steven Spielberg, and Antoine Fuqua’s Tears of the Sun. He was a regular on Sesame Street for more than a year.
Thiam came to Mexico with a busy agenda, teaching dance and drumming and performing in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Xalapa, Tepoztlán, Oaxaca, Puerto Vallarta and Querétaro.
