San Miguel is known throughout the republic as El corazón de Mexico (the heart of Mexico) while the heart of San Miguel is undoubtedly the Biblioteca Pública. More than just a public library, it is the city’s center for education and culture, offering a space for study, research, discussions, film and theater for people of all ages.
This Thursday, the patio provides the stage for the best selection of local Mexican music. The community choir Voces Unidas de San Miguel, a group of more than 40 sanmiguelenses, sings traditional songs under the guidance of Javier Hernández. Original arrangements of traditional favorites will then be interpreted by the chamber group Ensemble San Miguel, while one of the town’s best estudiantinas continues the musical gala with their unique songs. No Mexican celebration, however, would be complete without the sounds and passionate voices of the Mariarchis.
A delicious buffet provides a mouth-watering array of Mexican delights. A cash bar is available for drinks.
So come to Biblioteca Pública and celebrate Mexican Independence; this event is not a fundraiser—(M)it’s just for fun!
