Bill Porter dies in California
William Lent Porter died of lung cancer at 5am Monday, March 27, at his ranch in Petaluma, California. He was a lifelong nonsmoker, ate and drank carefully and took a short nap every day from his Stanford Law School days to the rest of his life.
Bill was a highly respected and well-loved member of our San Miguel community for 15 years. He was a generous philanthropist who, with his wife of 30 years, Barbara Bladen Porter, supported a wide variety of our many community service organizations. He never said "no" to a request for help.
His ashes will be interred at the Panteón late in April following a memorial service in his beloved San Miguel. Barbara has suggested that donations in his memory be sent to one of the following of his favorite causes here in San Miguel:
Feed the Hungry San Miguel de Allende, Aldama 3, San Miguel de Allende, GTO Mexico 37700
Festival de Música de Cámara de San Miguel de Allende, Border Crossings, Mesones 57, San Miguel de Allende, GTO, Mexico 37700
San Miguel el Grande Pro Musica. Make check to "San Miguel Educational Foundation" with notation "Pro Musica" and mail to SMEF, La Conexión, Box 5K, Aldama 3, San Miguel de Allende, GTO, Mexico 37700
