Pups galore

We are not sure what happened this past July or August, but canine love was in the air for sure! For the past month and a half we have been inundated with puppies and our waiting list is filled with more. Four extra cages have been turned over to pups, and our volunteers and Board members are even fostering some at home.

Our star mama dog, Mapy, has been doing a superior job of nursing and caring for her eight babies—these are our tiniest pups; they are almost ready for weaning. Four of her pups look like yellow labs (from the daddy dog side of the family) and four of them look like her, brown/black Sheppard mixes. They are all incredibly cute, healthy and happy, and almost ready for new homes. Four of them have been spoken for and four are left. Poor Mama is tired and ready for some peace and quiet, and she, too, is looking for a new home.
We have a quartet of slightly larger puppies, three newer little ones, and a whole bunch of rapidly growing ones. Our adult cages are filled as well, and we have a Doberman, another German Sheppard, one small black poodle mix and a small white poodle along with gorgeous black, white, black and white, golden and tri-colored dogs of every size.
The cats of San Miguel have been busy also, and we have some of the cutest, sweetest, friendliest kittens ever! There are spotted ones, striped ones, solid-colored ones, longhairs, shorthairs and everything in-between! When you sit down in the kitten cage with them, it’s a purr-fest. The adult cats are the handsomest males and the most elegant females, and all of them are eager to go home with their new person.
The new enclosed dog area is almost ready for use and will enable us to give all the dogs more time out of their cages and more space to run in. We are very excited about this, and about our plans for a new cattery, which we hope to start very soon.
As always, we need and welcome volunteers. We especially need people to work and play with our dogs, and we will provide an orientation and a training session to make you feel comfortable.
