From the SPA

Come—be the chosen one

It is said that once in a while the universe gives us special moments and extraordinary creatures. Here in San Miguel, we enjoy an abundance of both. None are more extraordinary than our local street dogs. When they are fortunate enough to make the transition from street dog to shelter dog to beloved pet, they are the most grateful of all God's creatures, and the lovely Tipper is no exception.

Her brown, black and beige body hints at an ancestry that includes a German shepherd in her regal lineage. She was selected for a full scholarship to our mentoring/training program, and her young handler calls her noble, wise and "muy brava." She has proven to be a fast learner and responds to both hand and voice commands. Hers is a spirited, but sweet, nature, and she will require room to roam and/or daily walks.

Tipper has graced us with her presence at the shelter for almost four years and deserves to have her own extraordinary creature who will give her love and affection, good food and a warm bed, and the assurance that she will be cared for the rest of her life. Please consider this lovely girl as a beloved addition to your life.

Buffy is likewise a purr-fectly lovely girl—the color of a cafe latte or a wheatfield in fall, with a deep, rumbling purr that can send humans into the most meditative of states.

Surely we've all heard by now that cats can lower our blood pressure, soothe our souls and erase tension from our lives just by being what they are. Throw out your little pills from AstraZeneca or Eli Lilly—Buffy is the ultimate blues-slayer.

No matter that sometimes cats ignore us completely. Who cares if they make their most insistent demands the moment we awake or the minute we return from a long day? So what if they seem hell-bent on rousing us from a dead sleep with their sandpaper tongues on our tender noses? When a cat decides to own you, you know you have been selected for a lifetime of delights, laughs, rebuffs and demands that only a cat can deliver. Come to the SPA right away and interview with Buffy—she just might agree to go home with you.

At the SPA, we are always looking for volunteers for any number of tasks. You might not be in a position to adopt, but you could be in a position to help. Call us at 152-6124 or visit our website for more detailed information: www.spasanmiguel.org.
