Please, please, come play with me!
By Marie Abercrombie
My name is Dulce and I live at the SPA shelter. I arrived here about two months ago. I am a medium-sized beautiful four-year-old happy female dog with a wonderful long white coat. I was lost on the streets in a poor neighborhood and a sweet lady found me and brought me to the SPA. But, lucky for me, there was another female dog there just my size and they asked us if we would like to share the same cage. This was great for both of us, because now we can share our stories with one another.
We have been spayed so we will never get pregnant again and are looking for a home. The other day, a volunteer at the shelter came to visit with us. She let us sit in her lap and lick her face. She said we were so soft, silky and clean. It was so nice to have a human pay attention to us. The time was too short and now we are both wishing we had a place to live with humans that would love on us all the time. My friend’s name is Rusty, which is funny because her long soft hair is whiter than mine. She has been here about the same length of time as I have. Now we smile at each other’s antics and tumble with each other. It would be wonderful if we could find a home together because we are like sisters now, but I would be happy for either of us to move in with a loving family. We don’t take up much room or eat too much. Also, I think we can protect your home if you give us a chance. You know, they say we are better than an alarm system.
On Thursdays, 11am–1pm, they take some of the dogs and cats from here to the Jardín for people to see us. They have a chance there to see how we behave in public. I know both of us will be good because we want a new home so badly. I sure hope they choose both of us to go. Come by and see us. You will be surprised and pleased and I bet fall in love with us.
If you don’t have room in your home for us, maybe you would like to volunteer to come by the SPA and give any of us some attention. We like to be held, walked, talked to, petted and loved. We just don’t seem to get enough of that. Volunteers come here Monday through Friday, 11am–2pm. Kathi will give you an introduction and training on Thursdays at 11am and Rosa on Mondays at 11am, so you will be comfortable when you meet us. You will love it as much as we do, as we all finish the day with a full heart. Most of us have our own little home and we are separated into sections according to size. Of course, the little babies get to stay with their brothers and sisters and they have their own play area. Our homes are clean and well kept and it is a nice place to wait while we hope for a permanent home. The Sociedad Protectora de Animales is located at Los Pinos 7, close to the bus station. Our phone number is 152-6124. I probably can’t answer the phone as my English is not so good, but Rosa or Lucia will speak for us.
