Recycle the love
By Becky Milward

One of the most often heard words of the decade is “recycle.” It means to reuse or to give an old item a new use or a new life. Recycling is about second chances. At the Sociedad Protectora de Animales (SPA), our old recycled truck is on its last legs in its present incarnation and we sorely need a new one.

Actually, it needn’t be new at all, so if you have a truck that you no longer use, SPA would be grateful for the tax-deductible donation. Please contact us at 152-6124.
Meet Lucy: recently recycled. Lucy is a long-time resident of SPA, but was recently selected from our bevy of beauties by a man who was plagued by neighborhood pigs coming into his yard, rooting around and making a general mess of things. Enter Lucy, whose job—and jobs are scarce these days—was to make a big fuss and run the marauders off. Instead she saw them as new-found friends and romped and played with them tirelessly.
Needless to say, Lucy got laid off and is back at SPA. From street dog to shelter dog to pig rustler to lady-in-waiting, Lucy is waiting for the right person to come along. No pigs necessary—just a person who will appreciate her sweet, sociable nature and recycle her one final time into a precious family pet. Could you be that special person?
Remember, we always have kittens at the shelter. What could be more cozy on these cold San Miguel mornings than a kitten wrapped around your neck or draped over your head, purring like a freight train? What could possibly be more entertaining than a kitten swatting at a fly or tangling itself in a ball of yarn? What more glorious thing could you do for yourself or a helpless, homeless little ball of fluff than to bring one into your home and your heart this holiday season? At the SPA, our kitties are specially sized to fit perfectly into a standard Christmas stocking.
