Felipe my love
By Beverly Russell

The wine is poured, Vivaldi is playing. Candles are lit and my new Mexican love sit opposites me at the table. He winks one of his gorgeous golden eyes and looks very contented. His favorite food is for supper. Salmon. But before I dig my knife into my fish, Felipe is off to the bedroom where he has thoughtfully arranged some down pillows in an enticing manner. Dinner or a cuddle? How can one resist Felipe?

Not that he spends the night in my bedroom. He has his own quarters. But he is always at the table for breakfast greeting me with friendly conversation. Turkey giblets, ocean fish, chicken are generally on the menu. Apart from being the cocinera, I am also the valet. After breakfast he demands that his coat be properly brushed for the day, and his whiskers groomed with his favorite brush.

After three weeks with Felipe, it’s very hard to imagine life without him. It’s a cataclysmic change for both of us. Shall I let you into a secret? In his past life he was known as Blinky. When I first saw him, he was rather aloof. I didn’t think he liked me at all. But for me it was love at first sight. He was a loner, an independent guy and terribly handsome –just my type. He had been a bachelor among a group of bachelors for two years. When I saw them they certainly seemed to be enjoying each other’s company. Would he possibly drop this guy thing and come home with me? He protested a bit at first, but then he kind of slipped happily into a new routine. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on demand. Quiet moments at my side listening to music. Playful interludes getting the bugs out of my house, even a black widow spider. Felipe became the mozo I’ve always needed, Of course he would have a hard time changing light bulbs but then one can’t have everything. Felipe moved right into his new role and his name… dare I say, getting fonder and fonder of me every day. It’s a purrfect life. Thank you SPA for introducing me to Felipe aka Blinky. You made a purrfect match.
