Laddie, a dog
By Mauri Formigoni, May 11, 2007
| Small dogs disappear so quickly from the SPA in this town! They are so desirable we can hardly keep them in the shelter. I am writing about a small, sweet male dog who is still available though I don’t know for how long.

There is, of course, a 10-day lag time between the Atencíon deadline and when the paper actually comes out and I don’t want to tempt you and have the dog adopted by the time you call, but I cannot wait to tell you about Laddie. He is, as his name implies, a small boy, with a long black and white coat, long bodied and short legged, like so many dogs in San Miguel. He looks a bit like a short Border Collie, but he is a mix and his origins are unknown. He is a gentle dog, eager to please and loves attention. Laddie would like to be a lap dog, and fits well, but he is a bit big for a purse dog. He had mange when he first arrived and has been treated and is now mange-free, but his hair is still growing in several places. At first, he had a buddy in his cage, but the buddy was adopted and he misses
him. Human friends comfort him, but what he most desires is his own home and family. Laddie is good with kids and other dogs, and we suspect he will be good with cats as well. He is curious about our kittens when he comes to the Jardin with them, but only watches them play. He walks well on a leash and responds to treats. Laddie also came with us and others to the Children’s Day celebrations put on by the Municipality and Ecologia and he was a great success. He adores attention and he got plenty. We all went home exhausted, but as happy as the children.

Another participant in Children’s Day was Lupin, a 10-week-old female kitten with a smooth tan, white and grey coat. One child thought she was a squirrel. She is very personable and didn’t mind the many children who touched and were petting her. |
She would be an excellent choice for a family pet. We still have many young animals, especially kittens, and hope they get adopted while young since they are so much fun at this age. Some cats lose their playfulness as they grow older and wiser, though they remain good and steady companions, but the running, hiding, and wrestling kitten stage is the time to adopt. We have a rainbow of kittens now playing in Kitten World. Come on down!
Please help us by donating, volunteering, and/or joining us in membership. Each peso helps us help the animals. Membership is 350 pesos per person per year. We need your involvement and attention. And if you are seeking a certain kind of pet, please visit us often to find your soul mate!
See the animals we have for adoptions at www.spasanmiguel.org or visit us at the Jardin on Thursdays from 11:15am to 1:15pm. Come volunteer at the shelter at Los Pinos #7 (just off the Calzada de la Estacion, near the bus depot) Monday through Friday 11am to 2 pm. Play with kittens, puppies, or cats, or help train, socialize or walk dogs. Your help is vital to their future adoptions. Call me at home for questions 154-5930 or email me at
