The Lennon Sisters of today
By Mauri Formigoni, June 8, 2007

A harmonious trio

Of course, they are not really the Lennon Sisters, but they are sisters nonetheless. They love each other and wish to be together and are better together. Chiquis and Prieta were left with us to be terminated because the owner had “too many dogs,” but we cannot kill such lively, happy girls.

So, we offer them to you. One is white; the other grey. They have a third ‘sister’ who is a red Cocker Spaniel, frightened, but charming, and needing to be consoled as do they all. How could anyone expect us to euthanize such animals? A volunteer washed them, a first for them we think, and cuddled with them for an afternoon, which was exactly what they needed to feel comfortable.

If someone could adopt all three, it would be thrilling, but that is a long shot. The two long-haired little ones are a perfect pair and are quite manageable. These two girls are young and sweet and mild and winning and we encourage you to look at them and consider if you would win with them. How could one go wrong?

There is constant drama at the shelter. We never know who will be brought to us and who will respond. Our goal is to have all animals adopted. The prize is to fight for life!

Kitty litters

Kittens remain the word of the day! Many have been adopted out, but they keep coming. I am returning a new litter of four black babies, two males and two females, that I cannot allow to be put down. I am becoming a permanent mother of young kittens, and I love my new role. They remember me, and it warms me to be so defined.

Mi nombre es…

Names have become a problem. They do not recognize the names we give them, but they identify them and so it becomes important as accountability. We named seven of the “ten tan puppies” after the days of the week. Then we went through a cheese fetish, which included Cheddar, Cheshire and so on. We had an English writers’ bout, the Bronte sisters, Emily and Charlotte, and also opera babies, Brunhilde and Aida. If you have ideas to share, please write us with suggestions. We welcome your involvement with the animals of the SPA in whatever ways you are comfortable.

Wish list redux

We do have a wish list and will reveal it little by little. We found in our venture to the Humane Society Expo in Dallas that there is a need in the US for certain dogs, especially puppies, and we wish most urgently for a used but serviceable van to transport animals to the States for training and adoption. We also need a used but serviceable digital camera. We always need blankets and towels, carrier cages, as well as good quality dog and cat food and feeding dishes. Consider sponsoring an animal from our website. They deserve a little extra and it is an easy way to contribute.

We send a toast and wishes of health to Suzanne Ludekens, our editor and mentor, who, at this writing, is in the hospital in Celaya, but by now we hope is much better. We miss you and wish you all of our healing powers. We will name a healthy animal after you in hopes of speeding your recovery with life abundant!

Visitor volunteers

Luckily visitors to San Miguel to study language or simply to relax become good, attentive, loving volunteers to work for a while with our animals. We celebrate this and encourage you to join us! There is a lot of work, opportunity, love and service to give, and we welcome it all. Give me a call at 154-5930 or call us at the shelter at 152-6124 or just come down and see for yourself if you would like to be here. Our hours are Monday through Friday, 10am–2pm for appointments with the veterinarian and for volunteering or visiting, 11am–2pm. We live at the bright green building at Los Pinos 7 just off Calzada de la Estación (previously Canal) just before the Central de Autobuses. Check out our animals on our website at www.spasanmiguel.org.  We always welcome you!
