Roses in winter

Most kittens are born in spring and summer—another bit of sensible planning by Mother Nature to protect them from times of scarce food and bad weather.

But sometimes we’re surprised by a very special delivery, out of season, like roses in midwinter, like the group of Siamese-mix kittens now at the SPA. Their mom and dad hang out at the Santa Julia orphanage, and one of our great volunteers not only brought these babies in but also caught and brought in both parents to be sterilized so there will be no more unwanted babies. But hard as it is to find homes for all the little ones who come our way, are you sure you can resist these?

We’re still overwhelmed with bouncing puppies and some of them are starting to grow into gangly but appealing teenagers. They are eager to please, bright and ready.

We are starting the year with a full house and desperately need to find homes for these young ones. Maybe this is the year you fall in love and make an addition to your family, perhaps a sweet shepherd mix like Sole. She’s waiting!

The Sociedad Protectora de Animales is open from noon to 2pm Monday through Friday for adoptions and volunteers. The clinic is open from 9:30am to 2pm. A donation of 250 to 300 pesos is requested for adoption and includes sterilization. We are located at Los Pinos 7, a right turn off Calzada de la Estación as you drive away from downtown.

The clinic phone number is 152-6124.
