I Kitty heaven
By Mauri Formigoni, April 13, 2007

We are fast approaching the heavy kitten and puppy season, and we have a houseful of gorgeous kittens, including two I have fostered, and there are more with other volunteers. We have a surrogate mother cat nursing away with her mixed brood, her own and others too small to survive without a mother’s milk.

Rosalie Gower’s kittens, Zoe, Chloe, and Cleo, are black and about nine weeks old. Mine are black and grey tiger striped females, now seven weeks old, named Francesca and Gina and I have watched them grow, wiggle their ears as they suckled, and must offer them to those who want adorable babies and do not have as many adult cats, as I do. We also have a litter of orange, calico, and black and white active kittens who need to learn to enjoy the pleasure of the human touch, and we need volunteers to work with them so they may be adopted. We need your help!

I played today with Popcorn who is a four-month-old male with white fur and orange ears and tail, and slightly but handsomely crossed eyes, a reminder that he has a Siamese relative somewhere. I have an adult cat with that coloring and he is sublime! As Delicate and delicious as a Creamsicle.

Does anyone remember those? Vanilla ice cream and orange Popsicle in one…a good childhood memory! Popcorn is a sweet, yet playful, big kitten who purrs loudly. He loves to hide in boxes or in one of the cat hammocks in the cathouse and surprise you. He is a strong, sweet, little boy, neutered and ready to go. He is a favorite of mine!

Another favorite is the female cat, Peggoty, a long haired grey tiger who is divine and loves to play. A young cat, though not a kitten, she has the intensity of a love bunny and is a happy cat, as well. She, too, is spayed and is ready for a life of people-worship rather than baby making.

She has been offered here before, but you can’t miss her if you visit, and I want you to be aware of her cat divinity.

We will be at the Jardín again with our animals for adoption now that the holidays are over. Religious holidays are good times to adopt, but we stay away from the Jardín when the crowds are milling. It is hard on the animals. Do come down and visit and help play with kittens and puppies, and walk dogs and play with cats. We need your help always.

The Sociedad Protectora de Animales is located on Los Pinos 7, just off the Calzada de La Estacion.

A bright green building, all spruced up thanks to volunteers Alfredo Lanier and Stewart Hammer, who painted, did plumbing, added ventilation, made repairs and have invested time and money into refurbishing the facility.
