Fiesta for book collectors

A collection of 23 short stories, signed by author Ray Bradbury in 1989. Alfred A. Knopf, 1988, first edition.

Over four Thursdays in March, the Bodega earned 62,000 pesos from a special section of rare and collectible books, and enhanced regular Bodega offerings. The books were from the many donations the library receives and were valued from 50 pesos to 5,000.

Library patrons have asked about another “fiesta for book collectors.” Now we can report it will be repeated the first two Thursdays of August.

The wise book scout will be waiting outside the main doors well before the 10am opening on August 6. This is especially true for those who like art books, because they sell quickly. The architecture section is nicely stocked, as are the shelves of poetry, sociology, anthropology, science and philosophy. Highlights are signed books, a leather-bound complete works of Shakespeare, Will Durant history books and a Britannica Great Books set 1–42. The sale also offers new first-edition hardcovers of current popular fiction at 50 pesos.

On August 13, more volumes will be added to the special section on the Biblioteca patio. This sale provides additional funds for the library. The Bodega de Sorpresas has helped fund the Biblioteca’s scholarship programs for decades through weekly sales of books and other items.
