The abstract Wey
(Feb 10, 2005)

The work of Michelle Wey displays a process that is measured, rational, and intuitive, and which is developed through a layered process over time.

This technique produces a feeling of slow deliberateness that is revealed by interior spaces overlaid with color; the sharp, clear surface of the canvas; the fine, transparent application of wax. From each painting's pencil-drawn inception in Wey's sketchbook, the organic composition of her lines communicate an atmosphere of new environments that are both earthly and ethereal.

Wey continually explores the abstract manifestations of her compositions while allowing for a narrative element. Her paintings attempt to connect the levels of the spirit with the real world. Stemming always from a questioning of origin, whether it be the origin of living beings or the spirit of the universe, the artist creates a dialogue that attempts to define what the role of man should be in relation to his planet. Her purely organic references form realities of new cosmos, while always alluding to the unknown.
