Tours & Excursions

Saturday Adventure Tours

Most people think of the color amber as a clear drop of honey, but Saturday the Adventurers are going to learn all about the gem that comes in many colors. Tomas LeNoir, who obtains his amber from Chiapas mines, will explain the dangers in mining and what is involved in turning muddy nuggets into the beautiful jewelry in his showroom. He has rare pieces of red amber carved into an Aztec figure and he also shows mossy green amber rings set in gold. Necklaces of round drops of honey strung together evolved from those muddy nuggets from Chiapas.

Now to an ex-hacienda of the sixteenth century, La Landeta, a well-known family name in San Miguel, built by the first governor of this area. You will notice the talent of the Otomí builders through inlaid stonework on the facade of the hacienda. Mosiac stone paths have designs of flowers in various shades of gray stone. We will visit the old chapel, where 400-year-old frescos still are visible. The hacienda today is used as a religious retreat. Cameras will be needed!

These tours benefit the Centro de Crecimiento school for disabled children and leave the Jardín, across from the Parroquia, at 10:30am.
