Mexican World Boxing Champions Come Home to 10-Bout Event at Plaza de Toros

Mexican boxers, all with international standing, will be in San Miguel de Allende on November 16 for a 10-match boxing event at Plaza de Toros and will be streamed worldwide via Facebook.

The approximately 4,000 fight fans expected to attend this six-hour event will get to see World Boxing Association Interim Super Lightweight Champion Pablo César ”The Demolisher” Cano, who will be fighting World Boxing Council Light Welterweight Champion Roberto Ortiz.

The event will be staged by Golden Boy Promotions, a boxing promotion company founded by boxing legend Oscar de La Hoya. At the event’s opening at 4:30pm, Sanmiguelense Enrique de Allende will sing the Mexican national anthem. Local fighters, including Laura Leyva and Arturo “El Chicarito” Salas, will also be participating.

“Through Oscar de la Hoya Golden Boy Promotions, you will have the opportunity to watch local talent with the possibility of attaining the world recognition of Golden Boy,” a company release stated.

 

Golden Boy Promotions stages fights in Las Vegas, New York, and Los Angeles that are regularly broadcast on ESPN. The San Miguel event will be handled exactly the same way as the company’s other events in the US, the release said. Boxing fans worldwide will be able to catch these matches afterward on streaming video, available on Facebook Watch, a streaming content competitor to YouTube.
