Escuela de Educación Especial/San Miguel School for Special Education (EEESMA) invites the public to the seasonal opening of its boutique outlet, Deseñas, where handcrafts are showcased to the public.

The students have been very busy over the past several months creating one-of-a-kind, beautiful silver jewelry, wood cutting boards and easels, unique cushions, and embellished denim jackets, and much more. All are offered at a great value and because EEESMA is a nonprofit association, all purchases at the store are considered donations.

Your purchase will cover some overhead, purchase additional materials for future products, and will also pay the students for their work. Our goal is to support the students in their quest to achieve viable employment and to make the school more sustainable. It is our intention to set the bar high and offer the public high quality and unique products, items that both the maker and the buyer will be proud of.

The store is operated by volunteers and will be open every Friday from 10am–2pm. If you have a skill in design, retail operation, sales management, or publicity, please consider joining our volunteer team.

Although we value vocational training, the school’s most important and vital program is to provide an academic education to young deaf children in San Miguel de Allende. EEESMA offers to students from preschool to high school a bilingual model of Mexican Sign Language and written Spanish. Scientific evidence proves that a child introduced to language (including sign language) at a young age, two years or younger, has a much better chance of succeeding academically, making learning to read and write in primary school far more attainable.

Please join us in showing our encouragement and support for the children and young adults attending Escuela de Educación Especial. We are building dreams and hope for the future through vocational training programs. Learn more at
