Hundreds in San Miguel Enjoy a Free Meal on World Food Day
By Jesús Aguado
To celebrate World Food Day, the Food Bank of San Miguel de Allende (BASMA) invited more than 500 Sanmiguelenses to a free community meal.
During the celebration, which took place in the municipal parking lot on calle Cardo, people of all ages enjoyed dishes like picadillo, beef steak, and white rice, accompanied by salad and fresh aguas frescas, hygienically prepared by students from the Technological University of San Miguel de Allende (UTSMA).
In addition to BASMA, nonprofit organizations and private businesses pitched in to make the hugely successful event happen: attendees laughed, celebrated, and, of course, ate before returning to their daily lives.
BASMA’s goal in holding this massive event, President of BASMA Laura Torres said, was not only to feed the less fortunate but also to publicize the program that has been helping people from vulnerable communities and neighborhoods the last two years.
