Stories of Time Travel, Leonardo da Vinci, and a Magic Carpet Give Storytelling Festival a Big Sendoff
By Lee Harris
The 2019 San Miguel International Storytelling Festival concludes with the Showcase Finale, which from the festival’s founding in 2013 has been the most popular storytelling event of the year. The Showcase presents the best stories that have been crafted and told throughout the festival’s events and workshops that year. For over six years of the festival’s history, we have heard an incredible array of stories of adventures and daily comedies of life.
The stories reflect international encounters of the various storytellers with people from numerous countries around the world, including Africa, Italy, and of course México and the USA. There are stories of time travel, memories of a childhood magic carpet, an interview with Leonardo da Vinci, and a personal journey with Shakespeare. There are stories with titles such as “What’s in a Name?” and “Spiritual Defibrillation.”
Each person has a thousand stories to tell, both real and imagined. When you think about it, our identities are simply the sum of the stories we remember. Each one of us has stories that define our lives, including school events, births, deaths, marriages, divorces, and chance encounters.
The Showcase Finale will be held in the Teatro Ángela Peralta at 6pm, on Saturday, October 5. Tickets for this event are 350 pesos for the Luneta (Orchestra) and Boxes, 175 pesos for the Palco seats (First Balcony), and 100 pesos for Galeria (Second Balcony).
For the first time, all seats for the Showcase Finale at the Peralta will be reserved seats, a convenience to ticket buyers, who will not have to line up early and hustle for a seat. Volunteer ushers will be provided to help you find your section and seat.
Tickets are on sale at Boleto City on the second floor of the Mercado Sano, Ancha de San Antonio 123. Tickets are available Monday through Friday, 11am–5pm or online at boletocity.com.
