Dear Editor:

Amigos de Animales of San Miguel de Allende AC asks for clarification regarding an article in the August 23, 2019 issue of Atencion in which incorrect information about the nonprofit was made. The clarification is as follows:

The Association is active and functioning successfully. We are an association dedicated to carrying out sterilization campaigns here in San Miguel de Allende and in the outlying communities of that municipality with a mobile clinic.

Another important project we carry out is the animal awareness workshops, which are aimed especially at preschool and primary school children. The main objectives of this project are to create animal awareness, to teach young children to respect animals and understand they have feelings, and to teach them how to properly take care of their pets, thus avoiding animal abuse, and with the intent that younger generations are the transmitters of this message.

Amigos de Animales does not perform animal euthanasia, rescue, or adoption. Our mission is to reduce overpopulation of dogs and cats; to avoid the abandonment and homelessness of animals. Indeed, since our formation in 2001 to date, about 21,600 dogs and cats have been sterilized in San Miguel de Allende.

Arno Naumann is a dear friend and dear to all the members of the Association. He was our founder, and he was in charge of the Association from 2001 to 2015, the date of his retirement. Since that time, we continue working on what Arno promoted and to what he dedicated much of his life.

Arno also founded another separate association called ARKANA, which included the rescue animals he has in his home at this time. We want to clarify that there was some confusion about the associations, since both were founded by him.

We thank Arno infinitely for his work and dedication to giving animals a better quality of life.

Guadalupe Ramírez, President

Amigos de Animales San Miguel de Allende, AC
