Tony-Nominated Portrait of Governor Ann Richards Lights Up Shelter Theater

Ann Richards

By John Wharton

This Sunday at 3pm, you won’t want to miss a Shelter special event: a one-woman show available only on our big screen, direct from Broadway!

Ann is a no-holds-barred portrait of Ann Richards, the legendary governor of Texas—and George Bush’s worst political nightmare, the man Ann said famously was “born with a silver foot in his mouth.” This inspiring and hilarious solo play brings us face-to-face with a complex, colorful, and captivating character bigger than the state from which she hailed.

Written and performed by Emmy-Award winner Holland Taylor (Two and a Half Men and The Practice), Ann takes a revealing look at the impassioned woman who enriched the lives of her followers, friends, and family and earned Taylor a 2013 Tony Award nomination for Best Actress.

Doors open at 2:30. Best seats are available online at www.sheltervg4.com or at the door.

Join us Saturday, Sept 21, at 3pm, as we separate fact from fiction with The Rise and Fall of Harvey Weinstein, a new documentary that chronicles how the producer allegedly sexually harassed and abused dozens of women over four decades. Rolling Stone Magazine calls the film “Exemplary work…ultimately this documentary belongs to the women.”

Afterwards, we will discuss the #MeToo movement and its impact on society and the well-worn “casting couches” of Hollywood.

Wednesday, Sep 25, at 3pm: Macbeth. In Kit Monkman’s daring new 2018 adaptation, this compelling tale of unchecked ambition, soured friendship, lost intimacy, and the descent into nihilism is encountered in a strange and claustrophobic territory partly conjured by the mind. The Guardian raves, “Akiya Henry’s performance as the scheming wife of our favorite usurper to the throne is a stand-out!”

Visit www.sheltervg4.com for map, events, and online tickets. Send ticketing questions and comments to sheltervg4@gmail.com. You do not need to print your online tickets, just tell us your name when you arrive at the event. Advance tickets are not available for films or Open Mic. Find our logo on the Que Pasa map in the upper left-hand corner.
