On September 14. Tres Raices Vineyard will hold a grape-harvest festival as part of the 2019 harvesting season. It is the first time the vineyard is holding such a festival, at the encouragement of the state’s department of tourism.

In a press conference held at the Antiguo Palacio Municipal on Wednesday, August 21, the municipal government and the Consejo Turistico de San Miguel (San Miguel Tourism Council) announced harvest-related activities by the vineyard.

“I invite San Miguel residents to enjoy what we have in our surroundings, that they may visit these vineyards, enjoy important regional tourist products, not those just for San Miguel, which is a historical center. We have many products of interest for San Miguel residents and the visitors from Querétaro, León, Celaya, and the entire region. Really, they will have a great time.”

Also present at the press conference were Paola Velasco, Gabriela Chalela, and Andrea Moreno, all representing Tres Raices.

In recent years, the state of Guanajuato has been working to consolidate information about the many different grape harvesting activities going on in the Bajío to make the general population aware of the state vineyards where they can get to know wine production processes and commune with nature. They have been inviting area vineyards to participate in joint tourism promotion and encouraging festivals to happen around the same time.

Activities at Tres Raices start September 14 at 1pm with performances by the musical group Matute and a fiesta to commemorate the War of Independence.

In total, México boasts 4,200 hectares of vineyards in service of more than 100 wineries producing 25.7 million of bottles of wine on average annually. Currently the state of Guanajuato produces 300,000 bottles of wine annually, making it the fourth largest producer in the nation after Baja California, Querétaro, and Chihuahua.
