Mayor Luis Alberto Villarreal has announced a new municipal initiative designed to support young people with entrepreneurial startup projects in mind.

The project, called Joven Empresario (Young Entrepreneur), was introduced publicly by Villarreal and by Secretary of the Instituto Municipal de Atención a la Juventud de San Miguel de Allende (The Municipal Institute for Assistance to San Miguel de Allende Youth) Ricardo Trujillo. It will provide a space where young entrepreneurs can be guided by experts in bringing their startup projects to fruition.

“We will motivate the personal and professional and work of the young,” said Villarreal. “In order to advance, one must dream and follow that dream, and today we commit to guiding that dream of the young along. Through investment, economic impetus, enablement, and personal development, we can make all youth…be an asset to the country.”

The location of the incubation center is yet to be determined.

The project’s main objective is to help San Miguel’s young would-be entrepreneurs follow the correct steps in growing a business long-term, and in this way motivate young people to create something of their own, which could generate employment in San Miguel.

During the press conference, Villarreal; Trujillo; Director of Instituto Estatal de la Juventud (State Youth Institute), Jorge Romero Vazquez; and the business incubators and participating businesses signed a letter of commitment. One of the signing witnesses was the founder of Startup México and member of Shark Tank México, Marcus Dantus.

The participating business incubators come from the Universidad de las Americas in Puebla, Universidad del Valle de México, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Universidad Anahuac, Universidad Global de México, Universidad Corregidora, Instituto Sanmiguelense, Universidad Nacional Aeronáutica de Querétaro, Instituto Tecnológico del Roque, and Universidad Iberoamericana de León. These organizations will provide workshops, conferences and orientation, along with mentoring and support throughout the project.
