New Book of San Miguel Photographs Captures the City’s Variety

Fiestas a San Miguel Arcángel

A day, a week, maybe even a year, would not be enough time to stroll through every single space in San Miguel de Allende, to discover all the traditional flavors, climb every rooftop, and try each cocktail in the city’s bars and restaurants, never mind understand the city’s culture.

Dozens of books on San Miguel would probably not be enough to capture it all, but a new book, San Miguel de Allende, Encounter and Charm, is a pretty good start.

This book of San Miguel photos, created by Laura Torres and Ángel Sierra, takes readers on a journey through our city’s cobblestone streets with an eye for its most unnoticed spaces. Though its 370 pages and hundreds of photographs, Encounter and Charm lets you almost hear the street musicians playing and see the mojigangas in motion. Traditional and international flavor is everywhere in these photos of everything from the open-air market to the city’s most prestigious restaurants. There is also plenty of gorgeous architecture, both old and new, in public and private spaces—hotels, restaurants, churches, plazas, and everything in between.

Encounter and Charm had its book launch at the Rosewood hotel on July 26. It’s now available for sale at La Morada Hotel, Lagundi, and the Madre Tierra environmentally themed store for 900 pesos.
