Improv Troupe Offers Refuge from the Stressors of the 24-Hour News Cycle

Have you been spending a little too much time feeling worried or upset about the state of the world and what’s showing up in your news feed? Are you ready for a dose of levity, laughter, and unbridled entertainment? Welcome The Improv People to the rescue!

The Improv People, San Miguel de Allende’s favorite (and only!) improv troupe is a group of actors dedicated to creating theatre in the moment, based on audience suggestions. Not one bit of dialogue, plots, or characters have been preplanned. Everything you see on stage is completely improvised on the spot! Can you imagine being in front of 100 people on stage for an hour, having nothing rehearsed? No script, costumes, sets, props, or words from a playwright? It’s incredibly thrilling and sometimes terrifying (for us, not you)!

Truthfully, there are some things that we do have with us onstage to support us. First, we have each other. Improv is a team sport, and everything the audience sees onstage is created because of what each of us brings to the scene as an ensemble. We know that we can count on each other 100 percent, which is priceless.

Secondly, we have Trust, with a capital T—trust in ourselves that we’ll have just the right thing to say or do, or not. Actually, being onstage and being silent is often a powerful, difficult, and brave choice. Also, we trust each other, knowing that each of us will contribute to helping move the story along.

And the best part? We have you, our audience! We have you to shout out suggestions, laugh with us, and sometimes, if we did our jobs right, applaud our efforts. Without you, we’d just be a group of people making stuff up in the bodega for no apparent reason. Fun, but not quite as fun-filling. You’re a vital part of what makes The Improv People so successful, year after year. Thank you for that!

If you’re ready to experience a memorable and highly entertaining night of theatre away from your newsfeed, please join us! As of this writing, most of the tickets for the July 27 performance at Teatro Santa Ana have sold, and nearly every show for the past eight years has sold out early. All this to say, please hop, skip, or jump your way to buy tickets at Teatro Santa Ana’s box office or online at, or from any cast member: Barbara Ziff, Anne Campbell, Kate Rowland, Gina Giampaoli, Chris Kapilla, Eli Hans, and Joseph Bennett.

Thank you so much for your support. We so appreciate you!
