Ethical Shopping Available at Bazar de Diseño Alternativo

BAZAR JADE

BAZAR JADE

By Jade Arroyo

For its thirty-second exhibition, the Bazaar of Art and Alternative Design will take place July 20–21, showcasing the best of México’s young independent fashion designers. Attending the film festival will be a weekend not to miss.

Since its inception in 2013, the bazaar’s goal was to be the first platform in town to empower and promote the talent of young independent designers, as well as create awareness by the public about the importance of supporting the young entrepreneurs and artists by buying their products.  An alternative shopping experience was proposed, where you recognize the “human” side of design, meeting the artist who made your dress, that hand-sewed/handmade your sketchbook, the cool Acapulco chair, lamp, embroidery, jewelry, or soap. Can you think of a better place to find a present for someone special? We like to think this is a pacifistic rebellion to mass production, to embrace high quality and limited editions, promoting ethic commerce.

The bazaar comes packed with new talent, many different national brands showing a huge range of styles and formats: clothing, furniture, accessories, jewelry, toys, handbags, embroideries, lamps, beauty care, vegan cosmetics, gourmet foods and mescal, plus Mexican antojitos, and live music.

This project is the result of over five years of labor, and we want to thank all the designers involved and the community for supporting us. We would like to say “thank you” to Mojigangas San Miguel and to our resident graphic artist Machuca. To keep tuned in with all our activities and news, visit our Facebook page Bazar de Diseño Alternativo de San Miguel.

Since 2013, the Alternative Design Bazaar has been an open traveling space in our city, for art and independent design. This project was started with the purpose of providing a space for the creative “effervescence” that exists in México.

We aim to invite artists and the public to join the consumer movement of national fashion and design and any creative project with an innovative design proposal.
The Alternative Bazaar is a self-managed organization that aims to promote fair trade and encourage collaboration as a strategy of coexistence, social cohesion and unity.
