Top Danzón Orchestra Comes to San Miguel in Free Public Performance

By Leonardo Rosen

I cannot tell you how thankful I am for the wonderful treatment I am getting from the present city government. As some of you may know, it was not always thus. I give special thanks to Lic Verónica Agundis, Síndico Municipal (Deputy Mayor), and Lic Paulina Cadena, Director of Culture and Traditions. The generosity of this government permits us to present a very special music and dance event.

The Department of Culture and Traditions and the Club de Danzón “Mercerina” invite you to a celebration of San Miguel de Allende, the 2019 American Capital of Culture, in a special edition of the dance event “El Danzón y Otros Ritmos Bailables” on Sunday, May 19, from 5:30–8:30pm. Admission is free.

Performing in person, we have the very elegant ensemble, Danzonera Aragón, led by Maestro Silverio Fuentes. This is one of the finest danzón orchestras in the world. In addition, it has two other identities, which allow it to play a wide variety of Latin and American music. This is a “don’t miss” opportunity to dance with a top orchestra, or just watch the show.

Danzoneros from neighboring cities and even as far away as México City will be in attendance. Although it is certainly not obligatory, we ask participants to dress in white, if possible, in honor of our beautiful city. For additional information, call the Office of Culture and Traditions at 121 4319 or Leo, “El Brujo del Danzón” at 154 5840.

If you don’t know what danzón is, please join us and find out. As we always say, you are the stars of this show!
